BEFORE2030 - A LIVABLE FUTURE For people, planet, and all life
INNOVATE LESS HARMFUL AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEMS
No more industry snow-jobs. Adopt as many smart heat-reducing natural systems design as possible: Overhangs on buildings, white roofs, etc. Use Nature’s systems as helpers: tree cover creating shade. Adopt safari roofs in design? Do solar panels on roof reduce heat build-up in attic? Understand the passive and the mechanical. There are many below ground solutions that need to be researched.
Project Drawdown’s Alternative Refrigerants solution consists of the gradual replacement of hydrofluorocarbon (HFCs), which are highly potent greenhouse gases, by alternative refrigerants, including ammonia, carbon dioxide, propane, and isobutene. Refrigerants are used in commercial refrigeration systems; in household appliances such as air conditioners and refrigerators; in refrigerated containers used for carrying perishable goods; as air conditioning systems on board cars, trains, aircrafts, and ships: in industrial cooling systems; and more.
From what I’ve read, the impact of improving these systems is one of the greatest single things we can do to helps prevent further climate destruction. The profit motive prevents many companies from doing the best thing for the climate, so further legislation may be required. I know they’ll scream about this, but believe it or not, the planet and our convivial survival is more important than their short-term profits.
